A record breaking 78 percent of Minnesotans voted this year, and, undoubtedly, Minneapolis College students helped contribute to that number. This has been a nail biter of an election. As I write this, it is still too close to call. Both President Donald Trump and presidential nominee Joe Biden still have a chance to win this election.
Minnesota was a rather easy call. Biden won Minnesota with 52.6 percent of the vote compared to Trump receiving 45.4 percent of the vote.
Nevada has 386,000 uncounted votes remaining. This race is so tight, Nevada’s six electoral college votes could swing the election. There is some speculation that most of the mailed in ballots are blue, but the race is just too close for speculation. Biden leads in Nevada’s polls by about 11,000 votes.
Pennsylvania is still counting and Trump is taking Pennsylvania to court because he wants them to stop counting. Right now, Trump is leading by about three percent. Why not wait until every vote is counted? So far, it looks like he still has a shot in Pennsylvania. To stop the count is just another form of voter suppression.
And why did the Associated Press call the Arizona race in favor of Biden with 450,000 outstanding mail votes? So far, only 88 percent of Arizona’s votes have been counted with Biden currently leading Trump by only about 68,000 votes in Arizona. Many of Arizona’s mail votes are red. We’ll see how this goes. It will be an upset if, when all the votes are counted, it turns out that Trump won Arizona.
It looks like Trump won Georgia, but with 99 percent of votes counted, he currently leads by less than one percent. And lastly, we are waiting on North Carolina, with 348,000 uncounted votes, where Trump currently leads Biden by a little over one percent.
It looks like there will be recounts people, so get some sleep because it may be a while before we know who will be the Unites States president for the next four years.
As an aside, has anyone seen how well presidential candidate Jo Jorgensen of the Libertarian Party is doing? She has no shot of winning but, so far, she’s garnered more than 1,650,000 votes. Not bad at all.
